Reverend Samuel Dickson Sandes D.D. He was educated at Eagle House School in Hammersmith and later at Rugby School, Rugby. In the summer of 1847, at the age of 18, he went to Trinity College, Dublin. He graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in 1846 and Master of Arts 1850. He became a Doctor of Divinity (D.D.) in 1853.
